-Police have arrested arrested a former student of Asuom SHS in connection with a fire incident in the school on Sunday
-He allegedly tried to run away when the police invited to assist in investigations
A former student of the Asuom Senior High School in the Kwaebibrem District of the Eastern Region has been arrested for allegedly torching a part of the school.
Fire on Sunday ravaged one of the school's dormitories blocks while the students attended church.
The police ruled the incident as a possible arson after preliminary investigations by the fire service led to the retrieval of a bottle with the smell of kerosene from where the fire is believed to have started.
According to the police, their investigations led them to the suspect but when they invited him to assist in investigations, he attempted to run away from the town and was only was arrested due to the swift action of officers on the case.
Though no casualty was recorded, the fire burnt to ashes all belongings of about 30 students including provisions, mattresses, footwear, uniforms and money.
The suspect now in the custody of the police assisting them in investigations.
