- Officials of the fire service say the gas explosion at Atomic Junction was not caused by a khebab seller
- 7 persons have died with over 100 others injured during the blast
It has emerged that the Khebab seller who was blamed to have triggered the gas explosion at the Atomic Junction in Accra did nothing wrong.
Reports by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) makes the case that the embattled khebab seller had not even set up when the gas explosion erupted. According to the public relations officer of the GNFS, Billy Anaglatey much as the development vindicated there also remained plans to investigate him.
“I am told that at the time the incident happened he ( the khebab seller) had not gotten time to set up his fire…but in reality we are going to interrogate him,” he revealed in an interview with the media.
YEN had earlier reported of how the manager of the burnt fuel station blamed the said khebab seller of triggering the explosion. George Owusu argued that the gas sparked into ghastly flames due to the risky positioning of a khebab seller just few metres away from the gas station.
According to him, he had warned all food vendors to vacate the premise following the leakage of the gas some days back but they refused to heed his warning.
Many statesmen and celebrities including past president John Mahama, Captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan and Rapper M.anifest have all expressed their condolence to the bereaved families and sent their warm wishes to the burn victims.
Vice president Mahamudu Bawumia has paid a crucial visit to all victims of the tragedy as he has pledged of government's resolve to fully tackle the issues about the establishment of gas and filling stations at residential areas.
