- Some social media users have been posting photos of Rihanna as white lady
- Images appear to suggest that the songbird would be prettier if she was white
- Many have found the photos to be grossly offensive, as they insinuate that black women can never be beautiful enough, no matter how successful they are
Photoshopped images of Rihanna have sparked angry reactions on social media as many construe the photos to mean black women can't be beautiful enough unless they have white skin.
The controversial images were posted by someone who obviously believes that the ‘Umbrella’ hit-maker would have been prettier only if she was white.
“Rihanna would look so much more beautiful if she was white,” reads caption of one of the vile and offensive fake photos.
The songbird has not reacted to the images yet, but many have come to her defense, insisting that she is pretty enough and doesn't need to be white woman to be seen as such.
“Those behind these photos are basically saying that no matter how amazing, successful, or beautiful black women may be, society would prefer them to be white,” protests one of the social media users.
The images have since grabbed the attention of the Black Entertainment Awards, which has also reacted angrily to the people responsible for spreading such messages.
“She is one of the most gorgeous, talented, successful, respected, and well-known women on the planet. But even she, like others, is not immune to people’s projections of Western beauty ideals.”
People have also not forgotten when some individuals claimed that Beyoncé was white in a similar spat over racial superiority.
