- Striker Georges Griffiths, who has played for Czech giants Sparta Prague and Hungarian Premier League club Diosgyor, has been shot dead
- He was rushed to hospital, but doctors were unable to save him
Ivory Coast international Georges Griffiths has been shot dead in his home country following a robbery attack.
The 27-year-old was in Abidjan for a home visit when he met his tragic death.
The Sun reports that the striker was driving around the capital's upmarket when a gang ambushed him and tried to take away his Mercedes 4x4 car.
However, reports suggest that Griffith resisted handing over his car to the robbers, leading to one of his attackers shooting him.
He was subsequently rushed to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
Griffith had no senior international appearances for the Ivory Coast, but played for the country's U-23 side before his untimely demise.
He also lined up for Czech Republic giants Sparta Prague, as well as Hungarian sides Diosgyor and Lombard-Papa.
