- Many actors and actresses have undergone dramatic transformations in order to play a particular role
- And Viola Davis is no exception after making some impressive transformations over the years
YEN brings you the different roles for which the actress had to make changes to her body, and how she managed to make the changes required.
When Davis got her breakout role in Doubt in 2008, she had to make her first change.
But the actress reveals that she wasn't expected to slim down for the role. Instead, she and the rest of the practically all-female cast were asked to gain weight!
It was absolutely wonderful having a practically all female cast, there was just wonderful female energy, There were no egos, no one wanted to be the star. And we got to gain weight!
But when she was preparing to play Susie Brown in the 2013 film Get On Up, Davis had to drop a tonne of weight again.
For the role, she used Hugh Jackman's diet, allowing herself to eat for only 8 hours during a day and fasting for the remaining 16.
Now, the actress is contented with her current weight, but she admits that there is plenty of exercising involved in maintaining her figure.
"You know they say 80 percent of losing weight is what you eat, and 20 percent is exercise? I got the 20 percent covered," she said. "If I have to be at work at 5 a.m, I will get up at 3 and workout."
She admits that she would like to be 10 or 20 pounds lighter just like any other woman would, but that she is contented to just be happy and healthy!
