Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has rewarded members of the Egyptian football national team with the sum of $85,000 for qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The last time Egypt participated in the World Cup championship was in 1990 when European side Italy hosted the tournament.
But on Sunday, October 8, Liverpool’s record signing Mohammed Salah ensured Egypt qualified for next year’s FIFA World Cup finals in Russia with a brace in Egypt's win over Congo.
“I am proud of all the players but especially of Mo Salah who was brave enough to take the crucial penalty.
“Also thank you to coach Cuper who has made our dreams come true,'' the President was reported to have said.
Egypt have won the Africa Cup of Nations title on seven occasions but have only been to the World Cup twice in 1934 and 1990 and are yet to win a game at the finals.
They are now the second nation in African that qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
