Referee Daniel Bennett

Bennett was originally scheduled to be the centre man for the second-leg semifinal clash between Egypt's Nadi Al Ahly and Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia at the Borg el Aram Stadium in Alexandria on October 22, but reports suggest he has been replaced with fellow South African referee Vitor Gomes for the crunch tie.

The reason for his sidelining is reported to be related to his below par performance at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in the Ugandan capital of Kampala last Saturday.

Referee Bennett, after one of his assistants raised his flag, disallowed what television replays showed was a perfect goal to deny Ghana a much-needed victory.

Before his decision to disallow Raphael Dwamena's 93rd minute strike, he had also denied Ghana a penalty earlier in the second-half when midfielder Frank Acheampong was brought down in the box.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), immediately after the match, lodged a protest with FIFA to sanction the referee and his assistants and also allow for a replay of the match.

Referee Bennett was later reported that have admitted to a CAF executive that he had erred during the match and was 'terribly embarrassed' by his decisions.
