- Nana Addo has appointed father of Samira Bawumia as ambassador to the UAE
- This appointment becomes the first ever in the political history of Ghana
President of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has appointed the father of second lady, Samira Bawumia - Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan as Ghana’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirate (UAE).
The president has justified his appointment of Mr Ramadan arguing that the choice for an ambassador in the said region is mainly due to the rich oil reserves in the Gulf which Ghana could learn best practices from.
According to Nana Addo; “appointing an ambassador for the first time to the oil rich nation will also help develop and build strong relations with that part of the world.”
This is the very first time in Ghana’s political history that a government has decided to appoint an ambassador to the Gulf States and with Alhaji Ramadan been the best choice for Nana Addo, there is the likelihood that the president is currently planning out ways of tapping into the experience of oil rich countries across the country.
Meanwhile, the appointment of Samira Bawumia father deepens the concerns raised by some political critics who claim that the president is embarking on a spree of cronyism and tribalism in his appointment.
Other government officials who are believed to be closely linked to the president are the attorney general, Gloria Akufo and also the Chief Justice, Sophia Akufo.
Meanwhile, Nana Addo continues to insist that his choice of appointment is strictly based on the credentials of the said appointees and not necessarily their familial relations.
