The European, Michael Punke is to serve his jail term in hard labour after he succeeded in defrauding two Ghanaians to the tune of GH¢40,500.

The German trickster was yesterday found guilty on two counts of defrauding by false pretence and the court presided over by Mrs Mariam Affoh slapped him with a six-year-jail term for each count.

The Accra court in hearing the case established that Michael Punke who is part of a syndicate has duped a number of Ghanaians businessmen after he presented himself as the Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority.

In their mode of operation, the syndicate contact individuals and businesses with an offer that Bui Power needed people to supply them with pipe sealants and stabilizer rings for a construction project.

Superintendent Rebecca Nyamah, presenting the facts of the case told the court that in January 2016, the group used the trick to defraud a construction engineer of GH¢24,000 under the pretext of giving him a contract.

After the first operation, Punke and his group contacted another Ghanaian and also swindled him of GH¢16,500 under the pretext of offering him contract to supply stabilizer rings.

The prosecutor told the judge that after the transaction, Punke and his syndicate discarded their mobile phone sim cards making it impossible for the business man to get in touch.

Superintendent Nyamah said police investigations led to Punke’s arrest after complaints from many individuals about the syndicate’s activities.

Passing the judgment, Mrs Affoh said the convict failed to provide any evidence to disprove the prosecution’s case and slapped him with the jail term.

However, three other members of the syndicate are on the run.
