A loving father in Cape Town has given his daughter a new lease of life after agreeing to donate his kidney to her.
67-year-old Abdullah Parker has been exercising to shed about 23kg before the procedure, which is scheduled for November 7.
His daughter, 24-year-old Amina Parker, was diagnosed with advanced kidney failure about a year ago.
While it was devastating news, her family was there to support her all the way. When tests showed her dad was a match, he didn't think twice.
Amina said: "My family is my pillar of strength and it has been a tough experience for me. I still want to do a lot of things in my life. As I want to finish my master's and travel the world, my dad has given me a lot. I am forever grateful for all."
For his part, Abdullah said: "I learnt at the hospital that I was a match and I took it with in my heart that I will lose 23kg, be ready for the procedure to give my daughter a kidney."
Abdullah joined a running club to achieve his weight loss targets. Meanwhile, Amina has started a blog to raise awareness about kidney failure.
