- Sophie Theallet has given up on a rare feat of working for two consecutive First Ladies at the White House
- She was set to start dressing Melania Trump after the Obamas ended their tenure
Former Michelle Obama's designer Sophie Theallet has refused working with the current FLOTUS Melania Trump.
The Frenchwoman who currently resides in New York worked with Michelle on various events in the past eight years.
Sophie also did projects with celebrity elites like Alicia Keys and Kim Kardashian.
However, despite having an amazing clientele, she doesn't feel the urge to add Mrs. Trump to her roster.
She had uploaded an open letter on Twitter to express her opinion of then President-elect Donald Trump.
“As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady.”
She continued that Trump campaign's rhetoric of racism, misogyny and xenophobia is not something she believes in and wouldn't like to be associated with.
She feels that getting involved in politics is unwise but she couldn't stop herself from talking straight from the heart about President Trump and his family.
She insisted that life isn't just about money. According to her, integrity is the only genuine currency. Sophie urged her fellow designers to do the same.
The most trusted designer of the former First Lady revealed her gratitude in succeeding to the States after coming here as an immigrant.
She completely agrees with the message that Michelle stands for - values, actions and grace. Theallet credited Michelle Obama for her recognition in the fashion industry.
Sophie said that she embraced diversity in her living and expressed it through her work in ad campaigns, her craft and on runways.
She believed that the country was built on the principle of diversity and found it hard to believe back then that Trump would be capable of embracing it too.
Theallet made a vow to never design for Melania Trump even if she was requested to do it. Many followed Sophie's footsteps eventually to refuse to work with the current administration.
