-Deputy NDC General Secretary Koku Anyidoho says his boss, Johnson Asiedu Nketia will not be contesting for the position again
-He has therefore giving his blessings to him to vye for the post in the party's National Executive elections in 2018
General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly know as General is set to leave his role, his deputy, Koku Anyidoho has hinted.
According Mr Anyidoho, his boss is not inerested in the postition anymore and would not be contesting for reelection when the party goes to the polls to select national executives next year.
The party's National Executive Committee (NEC) has scheduled July 27 and 28 as dates for its national executive elections.
Declaring his intention to move a step further from his current position, the Deputy NDC General Secretary who sees himself as the perfect replacement says General Mosquito has given him his blessing to contest.
“The beautiful thing is that he gave me his endorsement that he’ll not contest again and that is the beauty of it. He’s given me his blessing to contest as General Secretary. I’m going in continuity and Asiedu Nketia’s legacy shall forever remain strong in the NDC,” he disclosed on Accra-based Neat FM on Monday.
He added: “Asiedu Nketia has done a great job for the NDC, what I’ve learnt from him I can’t even put a ruler to it. Briliant boss, brilliat General Secretary who has done a lot for this party. I’ll step in his shoes and continue to support him and carry this party from where he’ll be leaving it.”
It is yet to be known whether Mr Asiedu Nketia would be leaving the post to just stay in the background or he will be contesting for other positions.
He has been the been in the role since December 2005 when he won by almost 80 per cent of the votes to become the third General Secretary of the NDC.
