Ghanaian celebrities have been embroiled in so many controversies that got many fans, followers and critics talking about them. Some of these controversies were driven to promote these celebrities and their works.
Some of the controversies have been driven by rivalries between some of these stars chiefly out of the quest to find out who is best in the field.
Today, YEN.com.gh brings to you some of the very popular rivalries and alleged rivalries known as ‘beefs’
1. Ex Doe and Chicago
The two ace hip life rappers were one the first celebrities to engage in open rivalry for all to see. The rivalry is believed to have stemmed after they collaborated on the hit song “Daavi Mede Kuku”. Reports indicated that both musicians were claiming ownership of the popular song. It led to the creation of ‘diss’ songs with Ex Doe singing “Ma Ba” and Chicago singing, “Wobeko”. The two top musicians used the rivalry to promote their singles.
2. Bob Okala and Nkomode
The ace comedians were always in a bid to outdo each other and kept Ghanaians glued to their TV sets and arguing as to who the best comedian in Ghana was at the time. The two were the headline acts for the much watched “Keysoap Concert Party”. The two entertainers literally hijacked the airwaves with their performances.
3. Sonnie Achiba and Slim Busterr
The two top musician got many music lovers arguing for hours as to which one of the two was a better dancer. Both musicians were noted for their exceptional music and dance abilities. Many Ghanaians anticipated a dance battle between the two to settle the matter once and for all. The two musicians were top dancers in their own right back in the day and they kept many music lovers entertained.
4. Charles Taylor and Don Bortey
The two footballers who played for rival clubs Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko were top players in their days. They kept many football lovers entertained with their goal scoring prowess and skills on the ball. They added a high sense of rivalry between supporters of the two teams. They got football fanatics arguing for hours about who the better footballer was.
5. Opambour and Obinim
The two men of God who are both based in Kumasi have been alleged to be sworn rivals. The pastors allegedly cast insinuations at each other and subtly attacked each other as they preached. Both pastors have a massive following and would not hesitate to launch ‘attacks’ on anyone who spoke any ‘evil’ against their pastors.
6. Delay and Afia Schwar
The two TV personalities are believed to have been embroiled in a beef that was talked about by many people. Their ‘misunderstanding’ caught a lot of attention and made both TV icons very popular.
7. Sarkodie and M.anifest
The two rap heavyweights were believed to be rival each other even though Sarkodie was traditionally known to rap in twi and M.anifest was known to rap in English. The rappers are believed to have engaged in a massive beef that went viral on social media. M.anifest recorded “god MC” as an alleged reply to Sarkodie’s song. Sarkodie also replied god MC with “Kanta”. It is alleged that both beef songs were used to hype their singles.
8. Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy
The two Dance hall artistes have been in a constant ‘battle’ to determine who the King of Dance Hall in Ghana is. Their rivalry has gained heightened interest in the eye of the public. The two artiste have added a touch of class to their rivalry by nicknaming each other. Stonebwoy refers to Shatta Wale as Corporal Nii and Shatta Wale refers to Stonebwoy as Sergeant Lee.
