Since the disease broke out in Wuhan in late December 2019, it has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands and the infection rate has run into tens of millions

The coronavirus disease which is also known as the COVID-19 has been described as a disease that is no respecter of persons as far as infections are concerned.

It has infected and killed several big men wielding a lot of power to the common trader who knows nothing about governance.

In Ghana, the disease has also affected people of great power and also killed many.

YEN.com.gh has compiled a list of top members of the ruling New Patriotic Party who have been infected by the virus.

1. Education Minister

The Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh is one of the ministers who also choose to self-isolate and test to confirm he didn't have the virus.

The minister decided to report himself to the University of Ghana Medical Centre immediately after he returned from his constituency on June 20, 2020,

He recently granted an interview on how he almost lost his life to COVID-19 if not for the special care given to him.

Fortunately for the education minister, he is fully recovered now.

2. Sir John

Sir John as he was affectionately known in political circles and by most Ghanaians, met his untimely death at the Intensive Care Unit of The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

According to reports, he passed away after catching the virus.

He would be missed sorely by the NPP for his contributions and impact he made in the party.

3. Peter Mac Manu

The campaign manager of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu was reported to have been spotted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on the night Sir John passed.

As to whether or not he has gotten better, YEN.com.gh cannot ascertain as there is not enough news on Mac Manu

4. Health minister

The health minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu was one of the first ministers to have gotten infected with the virus. His infection did not come as a surprise to many people due to his line of work.

He received a lot of public scrutinies not making his status known to the public and instead of telling lies about his status when it somehow got into the public domain.

According to him, he was only at the University of Ghana Medical Centre to rest.

In one of the Presidents addresses to the state on the COVID-19 update. He wished him speedy recovery thus, confirming the minister's infection.

5. Carlos Ahenkorah

The former deputy minister for Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for the Tema West constituency has been in the news for violating COVID-19 protocols and stepping out to a public place instead of self-isolating.

His reckless action caused a lot of public uproars which got him fired from his position.

YEN.com.gh understands that as of yesterday, July 11, 2020, he had fully recovered from the COVID-19 even though he was asymptomatic.

6. Dan Botwe

Dan Kwaku Botwe who is the Minister for Regional Reorganisation and Development.was recently in the news for recovering from COVID-19.

According to him, he followed all the precautionary measures to the extent of even spraying files and papers that came to his office with alcohol-based disinfectants.

In other news, six more persons have died from COVID-19 in a single day in Ghana bringing the death toll from 129 to 135.

All the new deaths were related to comorbidities except one person in the Northern Region who died of no known underlying medical conditions.

The country has also recorded 371 new virus infections bringing the country’s caseload to 23,834.
