Two government officials, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, who is the Zongo Development minister, and Mohammed Adjei Sowah, the mayor of Accra, were reported to have jointly commissioned a toilet facility in Accra.

Photos of the said commissioning were shared on Facebook by a user called Jxkalmhe Sticker who appeared elated over the event.

Jxkalmhe Sticker captioned the post, "Zongo minister, Mustapha Hamid, and mayor of Accra jointly helped commission a single-seater toilet."

However, checks from YEN.com.gh have it that the said reports were false and that the commissioning was not for just one toilet facility.

The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Gilbert Ankrah, in a press release, insisted that the media reports were false and mischievous.

His statement read:

“The said event which took place as far back as 20 January 2020 was an inspection of some 250 completed household toilet facilities constructed by the Akufo-Addo Government for residents of Jamestown and Chorkor at no cost to the beneficiaries.”

The AMA also explained that the project was part of 27 000 toilet facilities that have been built as part of the government’s One House One Toilet project which seeks to promote cleanliness and eliminate open defecation by ensuring that there is a toilet facility in every house.

The statement further urged the general public to ignore the publication since it is intended for mischievous purposes.

False reports with photos went viral as the two statesmen beamed with smiles as they commissioned the facility amid press coverage.

It was reported that the commissioning was done in a part of the capital city of Accra.

Mustapha Hamid, in one of the photos, was seen pointing into the facility as he briefed pressmen and residents of the neighbourhood.

In another photo, he was seen shaking hands with someone believed to be a community leader in what appeared to be a handing-over ceremony.

Looking critically at the said photos, it can be said that the commissioning was done prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic as all the people present were not wearing nose masks.

On a celebratory note, however, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that multiple award-winning Ghanaian gospel singer, Ohemaa Mercy, has wowed her fans and followers by showing photos of her first child, Kelvin Twum-Ampofo, on social media.

In a Facebook post sighted by YEN.com.gh, the singer took time off her busy schedule to eulogise her son to the admiration of her teeming followers.

The boy, who celebrated his birthday on 11 July, was described as a 'king' by his mother who appeared to be so proud of him for all the achievements he has attained so far.
