NDC Manifesto: 16 things the NDC has planned for the education sector if they win 2020 elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday, September 7, 2020, launched their manifesto for the 2020 elections.
The 143-page policy document, which is referred to as the People's Manifesto, is the NDC blueprint aimed at creating jobs and building a strong economy when it wins the December polls.
Touching on six thematic areas, YEN.com.gh looks at the 16 things the NDC has promised to do in the educational sector, should they capture power in the December polls.

Below is the list of 16 educational sector promises by the NDC:
1. Addressing challenges in the Free Senior High School Programme:
According to the NDC, by ensuring that the numerous challenges are addressed, the Free SHS would be more attractive as higher standards would be introduced.
2. Free SHS programme to private Senior High Schools in underserved or deprived areas
3. Scrap the double-track system
4. Free Wi-Fi for all tertiary institution
5. To complete E-Blocks and other abandoned structures to cater for the expected increase in senior high school admissions
6. Strengthen and sustain private participation in the delivery of secondary education
7. Newly created regions to have functioning education directorates
8. Construction of at least one Senior High School in districts that do not have
9. Set up schools in disadvantaged, over-populated and under-served areas including Zongos and other deprived communities
10. Expand existing and well-performing schools to admit and accommodate more students

11. Provision of free tablets loaded for teachers and students
12. Provide computer laboratories for all secondary schools
13. Challenges with the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to be addresses
14. Decentralise and strengthen procurement of food and other materials to the heads of the SHSs and their bursars
15. Provide residential facilities in schools to accommodate teachers and educational staff
16. Providing free sanitary towels to needy and vulnerable females with the aim of keeping all girls in school

Meanwhile, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been touring the Savannah region as part of his working tour to Northern Ghana.
On day four of his tour, Dr. Bawumia stormed the hometown of former President John Dramani Mahama.
In a post on his Facebook wall, the Vice President revealed how he was welcomed by a mammoth crowd when he visited the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer’s hometown, Bole.
