List of NPP policies NDC is threatening to cancel in their manifesto

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) launched its 2020 manifesto to Ghanaians on Monday, September 7, ahead of the December 7 polls.

The opposition party outlined loads of comprehensive, confusing, and even impossible promises in their manifesto to electorates.

In the outdoor event monitored by YEN.com.gh, the NDC put out there a plethora of things they will do if they win the 2020 presidential election.

The party’s flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama has also described the upcoming elections a referendum on President Akufo-Addo’s performance.

Apart from the promises in the NDC manifesto dubbed the ‘The People’s Manifesto’, there are also programs, policies, or things the party says they will scrap, cancel, expunge or revert if they come into power.

YEN.com.gh has perused the NDC 2020 manifesto and present to you, six things former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to scrap should he win the elections.

1. Expunge Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) from the school curriculum.

According to the UNFPA, Comprehensive Sexuality Education enables young people to protect their health, well-being, and dignity.

The introduction of the CSE generated a public discussion as to whether it was appropriate to introduce primary one pupils to sex education, etc.

But the government and the Education Ministry explained that the overall objective of the CSE is to equip pupils to know and experience their sexuality.

2. Scrap law banning the importation of salvage vehicles

The NDC manifesto says the party will review the Customs (Amendment) Act, 2020 (Act 1014) to scrap the law banning the importation of salvaged vehicles.

This NDC noted that this will save the local automotive industry, especially Suame Magazine, Kokompe and Abossey Okai from collapse.

3. Abolish the double-track system

The NDC manifesto opined that "we are committed to implementing a better and improved Free Secondary Education Programme and will consequently end the dreaded double-track system which has increased cost of SHS education for some parents".

4. Cancel mandatory national service for graduate teachers

John Mahama has promised to abolish the mandatory national service and teacher licensure examinations for graduate teachers when the NDC comes to power.

5. Abolish the guarantor system for student loan access

The NDC manifesto has also promised it will abolish the requirement of guarantors as a pre-condition for accessing student loans to 
enable more students who need financial assistance access the loan.

6. Scrap the controversial Agyapa Minerals deal

YEN.com.gh earlier reported the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned Ghanaians ahead of the December general elections to make a wise choice by voting for President Nana Akufo-Addo instead of John Mahama.

Speaking at a press conference monitored by YEN.com.gh in Accra on Monday, September 7, 2020, the deputy campaign manager of the NPP, Dr. Mustapha Hamid, said it will be a waste of an opportunity to bring back the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer.
