The assemblyman for the Battor Torgodo Electoral Area, Dominic Senyo Yahesu, disclosed this in an interview with Selorm Yaw, YEN.com.gh's Volta Region correspondent, on Friday, September 11, 2020.

Senyo Yahesu said the area had faced challenges in accessing water for years, despite numerous pleas to the district authorities to solve the problem.

The assemblyman also said numerous complaints to politicians in the area to fix the problem had not borne fruit.

According to Senyo Yahesu, governments have come and gone, but the water problem in the area has remained, hence the decision to boycott the polls in December.

YEN: So, please can you tell me exactly what critical challenges your area is facing?

Senyo Yahesu: Lack of Water.

YEN: Is water the only challenge?

Dominic: We also need infrastructure (classroom and KG blocks) at Ngorlekpoe Battor. But, the major challenge is water.

YEN: What is your MP saying or doing about the water challenges?

Senyo Yahesu: His government is not in power. So, I have started fetching water for people in the area every dry season.

YEN: Were there any boreholes or taps in the community that broke down, or the community has never had them?

Senyo Yahesu: There is a broken down borehole at Ngorlekpoe. But Nyatikpo and Patamiakofe have not seen anything like a borehole or tap. Kanuwloe's borehole dried last year and it was also full of salt.

YEN: What other challenges do you have with infrastructure?

Senyo Yahesu: The Kanuwloe to Nyatikpo road is very bad.

YEN: But you have access to a health center?

Senyo Yahesu: Yes, but we have to cross the River Volta to the Battor Catholic Hospital.

YEN: Do you cross with a ferry or a canoe and what is the fare?

Senyo Yahesu: We cross with engine boats and they charge GHc1 as the normal fee, but if it is an emergency, they charge GHc20

YEN: With all these problems confronting your area, what is your next line of action?

Senyo Yahesu: We have decided not to vote again because parties come and go but the situation is still the same. No change!

YEN: Apart from boycotting the vote, what other steps do you plan to take?

Senyo Yahesu: We are also mobilising ourselves to demonstrate before elections.

YEN: Tell me how much you spend to serve your people with water as you indicated earlier?
