NDC doesn’t need new face; Mahama will win 2024 polls - Ashaiman MP

- The NPP has said it wants to break the eight years power cycle by winning the 2024 elections

- A recent electoral poll suggested the NDC will return to power in 2024

- For that to happen, the party needs a new flagbearer, some party members have suggested

MP for Ashaiman Constituency, Ernest Norgbey, says NDC does not need to field a new candidate for the 2024 presidential elections.

According to him, former President John Dramani Mahama is the party’s surest bet to regaining power in 2024.

He, therefore, dismissed the recent prediction by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) that the NDC needs a new candidate to recapture power.

“NDC cannot go into this election with any other candidate rather than John Dramani Mahama,” Norgbey told Joy News.

He said the party needs to ride on the shoulders of the former president who has been in the system for a very long time and who can win power in 2024.

“So in as much as I believe in their predictions that we are going to win power in 2024 massively and even win the majority in parliament, I cannot understand their methodology for saying that we can only win if we introduce a new face,” he wondered.

Norgbey joined the MP for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, in rooting for Mahama to be retained as the presidential candidate of the NDC for the 2024 elections.

Dr. Apaak, a former presidential staffer, warned that it will be calamitous without the former president on the ticket.

Without mincing words, he noted that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will easily break the eight years power cycle should the NDC present a new candidate for the 2024 elections.

In an earlier YEN.com.gh report, Dr. Apaak refused to accept that the former president lost the 2020 election.

Akufo-Addo defeated former President John Dramani Mahama in the said election to secure another four-year term; collecting 51.302% of the votes cast against the latter’s 47.359%.
