If you have a smartphone, use any of the accredited payment apps. The two major apps are the ECG mobile app and the Epower app. Below are respective guides on how to use them:

ECG mobile app

You can buy ECG prepaid online through the ECG mobile app. To do that, follow the steps below:

  1. Download and install the ECG mobile app from the Google Play Store or Apple Store if your device supports Android or iOS.
  2. Register a fresh account on the app by providing your phone number and email before choosing a password known only to you.
  3. Go to the bottom-right of the page to input the details of your meter, clicking on the plus (+) sign.
  4. If you own more than one meter, it is also possible to add another on the app.
  5. Select the "Top-up" option to add some money to your balance.
  6. Select the "Pay Bills" option to pay your postpaid meter bills.
  7. Verify that the payment has been completed through your chosen payment method (MTN mobile money, AirtelTigo Cash, Vodafone Cash, and accredited debit or credit cards).

This app allows you to top up your prepaid meter and pay water and electricity bills. It is easy to use if you follow the following instructions:

  1. Download the app on your smartphone and install it.
  2. Open the app and register a new account by providing your phone number, email address, and full name.
  3. After that, input a secret password.
  4. Click on the prepaid icon and proceed to supply your meter identification number.
  5. Input the amount you want to recharge with, the owner of the meter, and their location.
  6. Follow the prompt by providing further information requiring payment, and your electricity meter will be topped up.

How to buy prepaid without a smartphone

Consumers without a smartphone can also complete the process easily; all they need to do is dial *226#, and the following services will be displayed on your screen.

How to apply for an ECG prepaid vendor in Ghana?

You can only apply to become a vendor through the regional general manager in your area. For you to become an ECG prepaid vendor in Ghana, there are certain guidelines you must follow. They are:

  • Must have a registered business.
  • Notification for ICT officer premises inspection.
  • Premises suitability for vending is required.
  • Computer literacy is necessary.
  • Premises must be secured with burglar-proofing.
  • Maintain a distance of at least 3 km from the nearest vendor.
  • Online access to the ECG server is mandatory.
  • After inspection, acquire accessories (radio, computer, office furniture) at the vendor's expense.
  • IT officer will install all equipment.
  • ECG provides card readers, printers, and cashier/salesperson training at no cost.
  • Vendor deposit not less than GHS 2000 is required for quota.
  • 1.9% commission added as units for sale.
  • No payment is required for provided services.
