I Wanted to Be Soldier: Female Barber Finishes Apprenticeship in Style, Opens Shop, Her Skills Excite Men

A hardworking Nigerian lady identified as Precious Joseph has opened a barbershop after her family stopped her from becoming a soldier.

In an interview, precious told YEN.com.gh that she passed the screening to go for military training but her family kicked against it since she is the only girl in the house.

How I started barbing

According to precious, she went into barbing because she wanted to stand out at all costs. She said:

"My journey started 2014. Then I was still contemplating on joining the military or learning a skill. Being the only girl. My family was against me joining the military even after I passed the screening.
"So I’m like if I can’t be a soldier I should be able to learn a skill I can be dedicated to. I have worked with a few barbershops before starting mine. I opened my own salon last year in December."

Precious wants to go back to school

Precious who is from Orlu, Imo state said though she started off rough, she is making progress and succeeding.

She also said she plans to go back to school next year as she is an SSCE holder. Her words:

"I’m an SSCE holder. I wasn’t privileged enough to further my education. I'm planning on going back next year.
"I started off on a rough roll. But gradually is paying off so yes I have my little success story too."

YEN.com.gh sought to know if Precious has male admirers, she said:

"I must say I do have admirers. But have never experienced harassment from any of them."
