5 families in Ghana that have produced top footballers
Most people like to quote the saying ‘It runs in the family’ when things are going well. And for some families it has been about producing top players for Ghana.
It simply really runs in the family.
The football culture in Ghana is just wild. Many people love the game and the passion is simple unparalleled.
But to have a family producing top players in sequence is a rare scene. Not in Ghana, though, as it seems some families were made to produce talented footballers.
Here are five families that have been responsible for producing top footballers in the country:
1. The Ayews
Let’s just say the Ayew family is the euphemism of football. Currently we have both Andre and Jordan starring for the Black Stars, but there is also Rahim who is the first son of the legend Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’.
Two decades back, Abedi was also making his name with the national team. He captained the Black Stars to the 1982 AFCON final, with his brother Kwame Ayew also later joining the team in the 1990s. What a family of footballers!

2. The Gyans
Asamoah and Baffour Gyan do not have a father who played football. However, both players rose to become an integral part of the Black Stars (Asamoah still is).
Asamoah is the younger of the two and is currently the captain of the Black Stars, while Baffour has already called time on his career.
3. The Muntaris
Many Ghanaians may be more familiar with the Sulley Muntari due to his exploits for the Black Stars. However, the midfielder has a talented young brother called Muniru Sulley.
Both were bore by the same father and have been playing at the top level in Europe.

4. The Wakasos
In recent times, fans of the Black Stars have come to love the combative style of midfielder Mubarak Wakaso. But the anchorman is blessed with a kid brother who has also taken football as a profession.
Alhassan Wakaso is the younger one and currently plays as a defensive midfielder.
5. The Kingstons
The Kingston family has also been responsible for producing two very important players for the Ghana national team.
Brothers Laryea and Richard Kingston were integral parts of the Black Stars set-up for over a decade, and played huge roles in guiding Ghana to a first-ever World Cup appearance.
Richard played as a goalkeeper, while Laryea was a winger during their days.
