John Mensah open to Ghana Premier League return

Former Black Stars captain, John Mensah, has hinted of a possible move to the Ghana Premier League in the near future.

The former Ghana defender has been out of action his contract with Swedish side, AFC Eskilstuna expired last year because of injury.

But according to him, though his pre-occupation now is to recover from his injury, he would grab the opportunity to play in the local league if the chance comes and he is fit.
“I won’t say no to playing in the local league although I haven’t thought of that. As at now, my main focus is to recover fully from my injury problems.
“I don’t have any preferred destination because I have to start training for the clubs to see me and then bid for me before I can decide on where to move to,” the former Lyon and Sunderland player told Graphic Sports.

Mensah, 35, did not play in the Ghana league as he was transferred from Obuasi-based AshantiGold to Bologna in Italy as a teenager in 2000.
Apart from Lyon and Sunderland, he had what could be described as the most successful spell of his club career at Rennes.
His participation in the local league could revive interest in the top flight, considering his exposure in Europe.
