England's weakest link is Kyle Walker, according to Arsene Wenger

- Kyle Walker is played as one of three centre-backs although he is not naturally a centre-back

- Arsene Wenger says he would have opted for Eric Dier in the position instead of Walker

England player Kyle Walker, has had his role in his national team questioned. This concern was voiced by none other than former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger.

The Manchester City full-back is played as one of three centre-backs by England manager Gareth Southgate. But this has surprised and confused many including Arsenal's legendary manager.

Wenger is confused as to why Walker's pace and abilities are, according to him, being misused. Three Lions coach Southgate has been defended by his decision to play Walker in the position.

England have so far won their first two games at the World Cup and optimism is high among their fans. Last Sunday's victory 6-1 over lowly Panama in particular has somewhat put to bed the question of goalscoring in the side.

Captain Harry Kane is the tournament's lead scorer with 5 goals. He became the second England player to score a hat-trick in World Cup game after Gray Lineker.

But all of this is not moving Arsene Wenger. He recognised the fact that although many believe that attacking may be the best of defence, England need to put things in proper order.

Wenger remarked: He’s not a real defender and especially not a central defender,"

"He can be subject to making defensive mistakes which he would not pay for when he plays on the right."

Tottenham's Eric Dier, who has in the past played in the position for England and his club side, is in the squad. However, he has yet to make his debut at the tournament.

Wenger added of Dier: "He can play in the middle of the defence and as a midfielder," he added. "I don’t know why he has not been used at all."

England have progressed to the knockout stages of the tournament, and will face one of Japan, Senegal or Colombia in the next round. They play their final group game against Belgium on Thursday.
