5 things we learned from GoG-FIFA meeting
On Thursday, government delegation led by senior minister, Osafo Marfo, met FIFA’s boss Gianni Infantino in Zurich over the crisis facing Ghana football.
Following Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ latest documentary which captured top Ghana Football Association officials and referees receiving bribes to influence the result of certain matches, football was halted in the country.
Due to Anas’ video, Government of Ghana initiated the move to dissolve the Ghana Football Association by going to court.

But last Monday, FIFA warned the government to desist from disbanding the FA or Ghana will be handed a ban.
Following that warning, Ghana President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, phoned Infantino and a meeting was arranged. Government of Ghana and FIFA agreed to form a Normalization Committee that will lead reforms at the FA, meaning the current Executive Committee of the FA has been dissolved.
Here are the five things we learned from government of Ghana and FIFA meeting:

1. National teams participation
There are impending tournaments Ghana will be participating. The Black Stars will be playing Kenya this September in AFCON qualifier and the Ghana U-20 will be competing in next year’s Africa Youth Championship.
With government of Ghana and FIFA reaching agreement an agreement, Ghana can go ahead to play any tournaments sanctioned by FIFA or CAF.
2. Cleaning the mess at the FA
As Anas’ investigation uncovered massive corruption at the FA, now there is an opportunity to clean the mess at the FA which for the past years Ghanaians has been calling for.
3. Football returns
For the past three months football has been halted in the country due to Anas’ video. Football fans have been starved, however, with the latest decision coming from FIFA the Ghana Premier League will be starting soon.

4. Clubs to make money
The only source of revenue for clubs in Ghana is player sales and gate proceeds, with the domestic league set to return, clubs will make some money from gates, and if their players hit top form those players can be transferred outside the shores of the country for good money.
5. Fresh faces at the FA
It is likely there will be fresh faces to run the affairs of football in the country. Ghanaians have called for changes at the FA and now this is the right time for new people to manage football in the country.
