Two second half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford was all Manchester United needed to beat Newcastle United 2-0 at St James' Park on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

The encounter saw United continue their perfect run of form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

Solskjaer’s substitutes changed the game for United as Lukaku netted within seconds after coming in as well as Alexis Sanchez providing Rashford the assist for the second.

The performance on the day also saw United claim their fourth straight Premier League win since the exit of Jose Mourinho.

Newcastle had their moments through Christian Atsu but their finishing was not good enough to score on the day.

It was a difficult first stanza as both sides held on and did not want to give away anything.

After the half time break the Red Devils came more into the contest

And with the inputs from the bench Lukaku opened scores for United in the 69th minute.

And on the 90th minute Rasford increased their advantage.

Pogba missed a sitter to continue his fine goalscoring form with United third goal in the added time after dribbling Dubravka but could only hit side-netting.

At the blast of the final whistle the score board read Newcastle 0- 2 Manchester United in favour of the Old Trafford dwellers.

A performance that saw Man United go six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Meanwhile, previously reported that Manchester United defeated Bournemouth 4-1 to continue their 100 percent win rate under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

French star Paul Pogba opened scoring for the Red Devils just five minutes into the game after tapping into the net from a Marcus Rashford's cross.
