Cristiano Ronaldo wins 2018 player of the year award in Dubai

- Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the 2018 Globe Soccer Award

- The Portugal international beat Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann to win it

- Ronaldo was superb last year helping Real Madrid to win the Champions League title

Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has started the year 2019 on an impressive note after being crowned the winner of the 2018 Globe Soccer Awards on Thursday night, January 3.

The 10th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards was held at the Madinat Jumeirah Resort in Dubai.

Cristiano Ronaldo was nominated in the player of the year category alongside France duo Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann.

But despite the two Frenchmen's achievement in 2018 winning the World Cup title in Russia, they were beaten by Ronaldo for the award.

Before the Portuguese left Spanish club Real Madrid, he helped them to win their third Champions League title beating Liverpool in Kiev.

The 33-year-old also emerged top scorer in the Champions League, after netting an impressive 15 goals en route to Madrid’s triumph.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has been impressive since joining Juventus from Real Madrid helping the club to reach the knock out stage of the 2018/19 Champions League.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh had reported how Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo was reported to have told Juventus' chiefs to give him three more bodyguards for himself and his family in Italy.

One of these three men will be monitoring his house in the Gran Madre Park, while the other two guards will be looking after him and his family.
