Legendary TP Mazembe keeper Robert Kidiaba known for his wild goal celebrations wins parliamentary seat in DRC

Legendary TP Mazembe and DRC goalkeeper, Robert Kidiaba, has been declared the winner of the Lubumbashi parliamentary seat.

Tension has been high in DRC over the delay of the announcement of results of the hotly contested elections held in December.

Kidiaba, who his famed for his unique bum shuffle goal celebration which involves bouncing around his penalty area on his backside joined competitive politics in 2015.

The decorated shot-stopper made his debut for the national team in 2002, and has since featured in 11 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches for the central African nation.

Aside from his illustrious football career, the shot-stopper also worked as an ambassador for the Peace One Day charity.

The polls, which were supposed to have taken place two years ago, will see President Joseph Kabila end his 18-year reign as head of state of the oil-rich country.

Since the declaration of Kidiba's victory, football fans have taken to social media to send tribute messages to the goalkeeper.

The father of three now joins a host of other top African footballers including Liberia's George Weah, who have waded into competitive politics in their respective countries.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh Incoming Liberian President George Weah returned to the football pitch to lead the Liberian All stars team against team Liberian Armed Forces just two days before his inauguration as Liberian President.

George Weah was voted Liberian President in his third attempt to become the number one political figure in the West African nation.

Weah, till date is the only African footballer to have won the prestigious ballon d'Or while playing for AC Milan.
