Christian Atsu opens up about growing up poor and becoming a philanthropist
Ghana Black Stars player, Christian Atsu, has revealed that his footballing career has been a miracle from God.
Atsu, a native of Ada Foah in the Greater Accra region, spoke to The Guardian in UK and said that his Christian faith, he believes, is what has kept him going.
Atsu burst onto the scene in 2011, when Portuguese giants Porto gave the Ghanaian his chance at stardom. Then a teenager, Atsu's pace and dribbling made him one of the brightest talents in Europe at that point.
The bigger boys in Europe started circling around and in 2013, Jose Mourinho secured the signature of the Ghanaian for Chelsea. The fairy tale has not really peaked since then.

His time at Chelsea was marked by a mix of injuries and loans at clubs where he had inconsistent performances. Atsu failed to make a first team appearance for the London club and he is now strutting his stuff with modest Newcastle United.
But the Ghanaian winger is not weighed down by the disappointments. He finds joy in the feeling that he is still blessed.
He is quoted as saying: “I survived but I don’t forget...My faith is the most important thing in my life.
I know I’m one of the lucky people God has blessed. I’m very lucky and privileged to be in this position. I had nothing and now I’ve got too much so I have to give something back.”

Atsu counts himself as an ambassador for the charity, Arms Around the Child. Through this children's charity, he says: “I donate often, so they can buy food and stuff."
“At the moment we’re building a school in Ghana. About 300 children will attend, I want everyone to have the chance of education.”
For a man almost hitting the twilight football age of 28, his name has not really hit the heights he or his supporters had hoped.
But Atsu noted that he was once sharing a cramped bedroom with his mother and twin sister. He is overly grateful that he is now in a position to help thousands of young kids.
