- The decision did not go down well with many Arsenal fans who asserted the 35-year-old had betrayed the club
Former Arsenal skipper, Robin van Persie, has finally apologised to Arsenal fans who were left heartbroken following his decision to dump the Gunners for Manchester United in 2012.
Having arrived at Emirates from Dutch side, Rotterdam, for less than £3million, Van Persie beat all odds to establish himself as one of the finest footballers of his generation.

He rose through the ranks to become an integral squad member under former boss, Arsene Wenger, and was named captain in 2011 following the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona.
However, a year later, Van Persie sealed a sensational move to Manchester United, a transfer that enraged many Arsenal fans.
But in a recent interview with BBC, the former Premier League star insisted it was the right decision for him to make at the time.
"I get that the fans were angry with me. I was the captain, top scorer and we came third that year. But just sometimes you feel you need a challenge, a new adventure," he submitted.
"If I hurt people, I'm sorry. But that's me. I made that decision and I stand by it. But that doesn't mean that I look in a negative way towards Arsenal," he added.

He further acknowledged Arsenal played an immense role in his growth and development as professional player.
"I cannot say one bad word about Arsenal Football Club - it is a beautiful football club, I had a fantastic time there. I arrived as a little boy, I left as an adult, as a mature player," he noted.
Meanwhile, Yen.com.gh earlier reported that Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, could be on his way out of Etihad to replace Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus with reports in Italy suggesting he has already agreed a four-year deal.
The claims came flying in after Radio Sportivo spotted Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici, leaving the Palazzo Parigi hotel where Guardiola was staying while attending a golf tournament.
