Lionel Messi, Barcelona superstar, was recently crowned the best player in the world following an impressive 2018-19 season.

According to data provided by OptaPro in regards to their general performance index in six areas - recovery, distribution, take on, chance creation and shooting.

And the outcome of the research reveals Messi beats Ronaldo in every department with an overall score of 91, compared to Ronaldo’s 84.

The 32-year-old scored 99% in shooting, take on and chance creation, while he got 10 in rigour and recovery, as well as 80 in distribution.

Ronaldo on the other hand polled 83% in shooting, his best stat, 69 in take on and 62 in distribution.

The ex-Real Madrid star however equaled Messi with 10 in rigour and recovery while getting 48 in chance creation, and this comes days after the Portuguese snubbed Argentine while voting for his FIFA best player.

Meanwhile, the Barca captain voted for Sadio Mane as his top choice, with Ronaldo second and team-mate Frenkie de Jong his third pick.
