Divock Origi: Liverpool fans blame Belgian for Ernesto Valverde's sacking
Divock Origi, Liverpool star, has been humorously dragged into the discussion as he was branded the curse-carrying villain practically responsible for the disgraceful sacking of Ernesto Valverde by Barcelona.
The Spaniard manager was given the marching order out of Camp Nou by Barcelona on Tuesday night, January 14, bringing to a sudden halt his reign as the boss of the Spanish giants.
Despite leading the La Liga table, Barcelona showed no clemency as they quickly fired the 55-year-old manager with Quique Setien brought into the helm as the new boss.
A section of Liverpool fans have now concluded that the Belgium star was the one responsible for Valverde's sacking after his goals crashed Barcelona out of the Champions League last season.
Origi, a shadow figure who is now getting heroic treats because of his Messianic goals, grabbed double during the second leg of last season's Champions League semi-final against Barcelona at Anfield.
The tough encounter, which held in May, saw Reds complete a spectacular comeback with 4-0 hammering of the Spanish champions.
Barcelona had already grabbed a first-leg lead but it was miraculously overturned with Origi scoring the opener and the last goal of the game in a brilliant moment of his career.
Liverpool later moved on to win the Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Premier League rivals Tottenham as Wanda Metropolis Stadium in Spain.
Liverpool fans believe their star-man is more than a curse for some of the sides he has scored against, of which Valverde is not an exception.
Practically, Origi's goals against six top sides have seen their managers sacked.
The Belgian scored against Everton, Watford, Arsenal Newcastle and Barcelona and got their coaches sacked, making Liverpool believing Valvarde's sack is as a result of the Origi curse.
