Boxer who beat Kotoko fan apologizes

The WBO Africa Super welterweight champion, Patrick Allotey has expressed regret over his actions after he was captured in a viral video assaulting a Kotoko fan on Sunday, Januray 26 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Allotey in a statement accepted responsibility for his actions and also apologised to the victim of the assault, Michael Siaw Agyemang.

"Much as I can confirm that I am the one in the video, I wish to state that I am very ashamed of my actions as a professional boxer and truly regret my actions," the statement said.

"I, therefore, take this opportunity to render an unqualified apology to Michael Siaw. I am mostly the reserved type who will hardly talk in public but this time around I don’t know what emotions came upon me. I am truly sorry".

Allotey also confirmed that his team has reached out to Siaw on how to remedy the situation.

The boxer's camp visited the victim after the incident and have him some funds towards the treatment of the injuries he sustained after the assault.

Meanwhile, the victim of the assault, Michael Siaw Agyemang has said that he did not know that Allotey was a professional boxer.

"I didn’t even know he was a boxer, it was after the video went viral that I got to know,” he told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.

He said despite this, he did not do anything to deserve the treatment meted out to him. earlier reported that Ghana legend, Asamoah Gyan, was one of the high-profile personalities who witnessed the Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko match.

The game ended 2-1 in favour of visitors, Kotoko. One of the highlights of the match was when Asante Kotoko introduced their 16-year-old wonderkid, Mathew Anim Cudjoe, into the game.
