I sacrificed a huge deal with Man City to play for Ghana at AFCON - Asamoah Gyan

- Top Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan has revealed how he chose Ghana's AFCON in 2008 over a massive deal with Manchester City

- Gyan also reveals he was heavily attacked by Ghanaians for a 'shoddy performance' when he decided to choose Ghana over Man City which made him want to leave the camp

Former Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan has revealed that he let go of a lucrative deal with English side Manchester City in order to play for Ghana in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to Pulse.com.gh, Asamoah stated in an exclusive interview that he had to choose between a deal he was being offered by the English football club and playing for Ghana when the country hosted the games in 2008.

In his own words, "I sacrificed for the nation. I should have been out of the tournament, but I felt that because of the love I have for the country I decided to come because I had a contract to sign for Manchester City, but I ignored the contract."

The beloved Ghanaian striker added that his own agent asked him to go for the contract saying, "I remember my agent told me I should boycott the Africa Cup of Nations and go for rehab and go and sign the contract."

According to Gyan, he was only 20 at the time and it was such a tough decision for him to make at that tender age.

He also added that when he came to the camp to play for the country, Ghanaians heavily criticized him for not performing at his maximum which made him want to leave the camp.

Gyan indicates that it took the intervention of then-president John Agyekum Kuffour to prevent him from leaving.

Asamoah Gyan has played at seven Africa Cup of Nations and has scored eight goals in the process for the Black Stars the former Sunderland striker is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals.

In other news, a Ghanaian police officer has been captured in a video that is fast going viral as he rejected an amount of money that was to be used to bribe him and strongly warned the driver not to repeat that.

The identity of the police officer is not fully confirmed but it appears as though he comes from the Volta Region and resides in an Akan community as he spoke Twi with a minor Ewe accent.

In the video sighted by YEN.com.gh, the officer stopped the vehicle commonly known as 'Mahama Camboo' to make some checks.
