Arch-rivals Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been listed as the highest-paid football superstars in the world last year.

The Argentine captain and forward raked in a total of about £122 million to top the chart of the most plaid player in 2019.

While his Portuguese counterpart, who clocked 35 in February this year recorded a staggering £110 million revenue - about £12 million short of the Barcelona attacker.

This is by no means fluke as both footballers have dominated the big stage for well over a decade - sharing 11 Ballon d'Or awards between themselves, among several other prestigious prizes.

Brazilian star Neymar is ranked third on the list according to Daily Star quoting France Football magazine - with the 28-year-old ending the outgone year with £88 million salary packet.

Although, he remains the most expensive player in the world since no one has come near his £198 million transfer move from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain in the summer of 2017.

However, their romance seems to have ended as the former Santos man is hoping to reunite with his ex-teammates at the Camp Nou at the end of this season.

Daily Star listed that Antoine Griezmann and Eden Hazard who both joined Real Madrid and Barcelona at the start of the ongoing season reaped in a cool £35.3 million in 2019.

And they are both tied on fourth on the chart for the most paid players last year, alongside want-away Los Blancos winger Gareth Bale.

While Andres Iniesta is a slightly surprising entry at seventh. The Spaniard was said to have raked in a whooping £31.6 million last year playing for Japanese top-flight side Vissel Kobe.

Manchester City star Raheem Sterling appears to be the only Premier League player in the mix with the Englishman commanding a total of £30.7m in the year under review.

But that leaves him eighth in the list, with Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski (£27m) and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe (£25m) behind him.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Barcelona legend despite all football action suspended owing to the outbreak of deadly coronavirus.

The Argentine has been in self-isolation since the Spanish League was forced to go on break after the bug continued to spread like wildfire.
