Real Madrid have been handed a boost in their chase for former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino this summer.

The Argentine has been out of a job since November 2019 after parting ways with his former Premier League side barely six months after taking them to their first Champions League final.

While leaving the North London side, he was said to have signed a deal preventing him from taking any EPL job for a period of six months, and that appears to have expired this week.

SunSport reports that the former Southampton handler was paid a severance package worth about £12.5 million by his former employers.

Los Blancos have earlier been heavily linked with a move for the 48-year-old as a replacement for Zinedine Zidane, they will now face stiff competition from Newcastle United who are leading the race at the moment.

Manchester United were also said to have shown interests but with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appearing to have steadied the ship at Old Trafford, they may have turned their back on the move.

With Saudi Arabia billionaires proposing a £300m takeover, landing Pochettino is one of their top priorities once the deal pulls through.

And they are willing to hand the Argentine an incredible £19m-a-year, contract - a huge increase on the reported £8.5m he earned at Spurs.

The Sun further stated that Pochettino will have enough to buy players when the transfer window opens - with Napoli center-back Kalidou Koulibaly top on his list.

YEN earlier reported that former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has declared that he wants to return to the Premier League and that he has unfinished business with Spurs, Mirror reports.

The 48-year-old was quite impressive last season leading the LillyWhites to the Champions League final where they lost to Premier League rivals, Liverpool.

Poch was also in charge as he led the team to third place and second-place finish during the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 league seasons respectively.
