A number of European powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Man City, Paris Saint-Germain and holders Chelsea are eyeing the title this season.

And Messi contends PSG are undoubtedly one of the main contenders to win the trophy but added six other clubs also stand a chance to lift the crown.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner included Premier League sides Man United and holders Chelsea among the teams he believes are strong candidates.

Man City are currently top of Group A after PSG were held to a 1-1 draw by RB Leipzig, but the French giants are confident of progressing to the next round.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are already through with two gamed to spare after stunning Atletico Madrid 2-0 in their fourth match of the pool.

In Group C, Ajax have been the standout team and in Pool D, Real Madrid are in a pole position to progress.

In Group E, Bayern Munich have already qualified and Barcelona will be desperate to join them.

Man United's Group F has proved to be the most competitive, with all the four teams having a chance to progress with two matches left to play.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Chelsea are second in Group H and moved a step closer to the knockout round agree their 1-0 win over Malmo.

While Messi is desperate to win the competition with PSG, he has insisted the French club must be wary of several other teams also eyeing continental glory.

"I think it is my biggest target and the club’s. They have been looking to win the Champions League and they have been very close. I think it is their main target. We are one of the main candidates, but not the only one," Messi told beIN Sports.

The Argentine noted Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are all in the mix to lift the UCL.

"Everyone is talking about PSG because of the players, but other clubs have been working together for years and have also signed good players, like Man United, Man City, Bayern, Liverpool, Atletico and Chelsea," he observed.

Liverpool stun Atletico

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported Sadio Mane scored a wonder goal to help Liverpool stun Atletico Madrid 2-0 at Anfield in the Champions League.

Any hopes of Atletico Madrid getting back into the game were quashed when Felipe Luiz was shown a red card in the 36th minute for taking a swipe at Mane’s heels.

The win cemented the Reds' lead at the top of the pool with 16 points, thereby earning them qualification to the next round of the competition.
