President Akufo-Addo suspends PPA CEO

- Nana Addo has asked CEO of PPA to step aside over allegations made against him in an exposé by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni

- The President has directed with immediate effect that Agyenim Boateng Adjei, vacates his office

- The documentary revealed that the PPA boss formed a company after he was appointed in 2017 and awarded restrictive tendering contracts to the company

The Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei, has been removed from his position over allegations corruption.

A statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin stated that the embattle PPA boss has been suspended with immediate effect.

The letter further noted that, the matter has been forwarded and assigned to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice CHRAJ and the Office of the Special Prosecutor for investigation.

Mr Adjei is to hand over his office to his deputy, Mr. Frank Mante.

Freelance investigative journalist, Manasseh Awuni Azure premiered his latest documentary titled Contracts for Sale.

The documentary revealed how the PPA CEO, Mr. Adjei established companies to which he gave majority of government’s contracts to.

The expose further shows how Mr. Adjei’s company, Talent Discovery Limited sold the contracts to individuals.

Mr Adjenim Boateng Adjei was the first CEO of PPA when it was set up in 2005. He was removed when the NDC won power in 2009.

He was reappointed in 2017 when the Akufo-Addo administration came to power.

The PPA was established by the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) as a regulatory body responsible for the effective implementation of the Public Procurement Law in Ghana.

The Authority is mandated to ensure fairness, transparency and non-discrimination in public procurement in order to promote a competitive local industry.
