Finance Ministry approves new allowances for boards, councils

The sitting allowances of boards, councils, and other bodies within the public sector have been reviewed following an approval by the Finance Ministry.

A communique from the Finance Ministry noted that the sitting allowances of boards and councils will range from GHc2,500 per chairman per sitting to GHc1, 200 depending on the category of the committee.

Also, depending on the category of the committee, each member will earn either GHc2,100 or GHc1,000.

It said the review is part of “standardized sitting allowances for Boards and Councils, Statutory and Other Committees”.

“By this approval, all monthly allowances to boards and councils are no more applicable in the public service.
“These are part of the harmonized and standardized sitting allowances for Boards and Councils, Statutory and Other Committees in the public service,” the communique added.

Meanwhile, National Committee chairman will be taking home GHc 900 per sitting while members are also expected to make GHc 850 from each sitting.

The chairman of any Ministerial Committee will be making GHc 700 with members of committees also being given GHc 650 as sitting allowance.

For institutional level committees, the chairman will make GHc600 and members will make GHc550.

The chairmen of the various agencies will also enjoy workshop allowances ranging from GHc 600 to GHc 450 for Chairmen and GHc 550 to GHc 400 for members.
