It is alleged that travelers entering Ghana, especially from China are not being checked and quarantined like was promised by the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service.
According to a new report by Adom FM, despite the widespread of the deadly coronavirus disease, travelers from China are not going through the 14-day quarantine period like was stipulated.
Checks by Adomonline.com revealed that Ghanaians and persons from the Asian country have easy pass and access to the country, even though the Covid-19 infection continues to kill people across the world.
The investigations revealed that some students from China have entered the country and were not properly checked or checked at all.
“Most of their friends have left China for Ghana and were not duly checked, many of them passed through the Kotoka International Airport with ease and were not admitted on quarantine-based procedures.”
One of the students, who touched down on February 24, 2020, said he wasn’t quarantined.
When queried if he went through a thorough checkup, he said: “I just passed. I wasn’t quarantined. I just filled some questionnaires; the Chinese are rather being separated from the rest. I think they will call us back later”.
The students who interacted with Adomonline.com noted that their colleagues who have been in Ghana were not quarantined for the 14-day period to know their true state.
On February 13, 2020, Head of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, told the media his outfit was training staff to handle cases which may come in at the airport.
“Surveillance training is very important to sharpen the skills of medical staff to help others without unduly placing themselves in undue risk,” he said.
