In the year 2018, Volkswagen signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Ghana to kick-start the process of assembling vehicles in the country.

The plant is expected to serve the sub-region and will produce about 5000 units of vehicles annually. Plans are in place to increase production, but that will depend on the demand.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, paid a working visit to the assembly facility of Volkswagen Ghana in the North Industrial Area of Accra.

According to VW Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Jeffrey Oppong Peprah, the company has commenced commercial production under a registered local company, VW Ghana, and is currently producing five Volkswagen models in its Accra plant.

Available brands include Tiguan, Amarok Pickup, Passat, Polo, and Teramont.
