Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that Volkswagen cars are available in Ghana for as low as GHc60,000.
The details were contained in a proposal from Universal Motors Limited, which is the official distributor of VW cars in Ghana.
YEN.com.gh understands that the vehicles are available at the company’s assembly plant in the North Industrial Area of Accra.
A report by Pulse.com.gh shows that the models available include Polo, Golf, Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, Teramont, and Touareg.
The company said buyers of VW cars in Ghana would also get warranty and service packages with their new vehicle.
The packages include a two year unlimited mileage warranty and a service plan spanning one to five years.
The VW plant in Ghana began assembling cars in April, and within two months, the first locally assembled Volkswagen was ready for purchase.
In the year 2018, Volkswagen signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Ghana to kick-start the process of assembling vehicles in the country.
The plant is expected to serve the sub-region and will produce about 5000 units of vehicles annually. Plans are in place to increase production, but that will depend on the demand.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, paid a working visit to the assembly facility of Volkswagen Ghana in the North Industrial Area of Accra.
According to VW Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Jeffrey Oppong Peprah, the company has commenced commercial production under a registered local company, VW Ghana, and is currently producing five Volkswagen models in its Accra plant.
Available brands include Tiguan, Amarok Pickup, Passat, Polo, and Teramont.
