Finance minister opens up about Ghana’s plans for 2019

- Minister of finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has assured Ghanaians that the year 2019 will be an 'action' year for the country

- He explained that measures are being implemented to secure resources to execute all the projects outlined by the government for 2019

The minister of finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has assured Ghanaians that the year 2019 will be a take-year for the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of 2019 Post-Budget Workshop held in Koforidua for Parliamentarians, he said that the government will execute projects to lift Ghana to another level.

He explained that the government will be in the position to raise enough resources to fund its programs in the 2019 budget.

According to him, the government expects to raise $2bn from bond issued in the year 2018.

He added that the Sinohydro deal, the Minerals Act is expected to securitize royalties from 500 million to 700 million dollars and GHC1.8 billion annual GETFUND revenue to complete educational projects.

Ofori-Atta added that with the upgrade of Ghana to B+ by Moodies, the country is in a strong position to source funding and execute its projects.

Touching on measures to block leakages, he went on to say that the government will collaborate with the Ghana Revenue Agency (GRA) to deal mobilize revenue and deal with corruption.

For that reason, he went on, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been given an amount of GHC180 million to police the public purse.
