7 vigilante groups and the political parties they allegedly belong to

The actions of vigilante groups have taken over Ghana’s media space in recent times as they often make the headlines on various news portals.

Political parties allegedly engage the services of such groups to achieve particular objectives such as provision of security.

YEN.com.gh has compiled a list of vigilante groups in Ghana and the political parties they are believed to be associated with:

1. Eastern Mambas – NDC

The Eastern Mambas is the latest vigilante group to be formed in Ghana by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). According to the Eastern Regional organizer of the NDC, Hackman Kabore, the main aim of the group is to protect ballot boxes during the 2020 elections.

2. The Hawks – NDC

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Hawks were one of the three vigilante groups outdoored by the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. The aim behind the group's formation is to counter the activities of those formed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

3. Kandahar Boys – NPP

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Kandahar Boys sacked the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

4. Azorka Boys – NDC

The Azorka Boys were in the news when they were had to respond to the allegation of an attempted diversion of votes during the 2016 elections.

5. Bolga Bulldogs – NPP

The former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey, once raised concerns about the rise in the formation of vigilante groups in Ghana.

6. Invisible Forces – NPP

The Invisible Forces gained media attention when they issued a warning to the government about the lack of jobs since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed office.

7. Delta Forces – NPP

A 'commando' with the Delta Forces was arrested by the police on charges of attacking a regional security coordinator liaison officer.
