Ghanaians say Bagbin's campaign message is Mahama

Ghanaians on social media have reacted to Alban Bagbin’s prediction of a heavy loss for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the party makes John Mahama its presidential candidate for the 2020 elections.

According to the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mahama is only popular in the NDC and warned that the ex-president will not be able to return the NDC to power in 2020.

Speaking on Accra FM, Mr. Bagbin said the NDC could suffer a repeat of the humiliating defeat in 2016 if the party makes the mistake of re-electing Mahama as its flagbearer.

What did we not see in 2016, wherever Mahama went to campaign? The electorate poured out to clamour for him as others poured thousands of praises on him. The man they so much praised, eventually, handed us a bitter defeat ever since 1992,” the Nadowli-Kaleo MP said.

He has become a demi-god in the party and so even when he goes wrong and you point it out, you will get his supporters verbally attacking you.

“The NDC is not John Mahama's, and the way some of them are going, I am sad we will be beaten again by the NPP in 2020, with him (John Mahama) as our presidential candidate,” he added.

Mr. Bagbin’s statement has generated varied opinions from Ghanaians on social media, who have wasted no time in giving their opinion on the matter.

While some were unhappy with the comment, there were also others who felt the NDC MP only said what was evident.
