In the past, the Black Stars of Ghana was regarded as one of the most fearsome teams in the world.

A throwback photo of how Black Stars battled the Spanish giants in a thrilling 6-goal friendly match has popped up.

In the said game, the Black Stars held Real Madrid who were then European champions.

The game which ended 3-3 came off on August 19, 1962, and it was played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana put its best foot forward, fielding a strong starting XI as it possibly could - Dodoo Ankrah, Frank Crentsil, E.O Oblitey, Ben Acheampong, Addo Odametey; Kofi Pare, Osei Kofi, Wilberforce Mfum, Mohammed Salisu; Edward Acquah, Edward Aggrey Fynn.

Madrid proved competitive too - obviously not here just for the fanfare and cash - and both teams eventually cancelled themselves out.

Three-all the exhibition match ended, with Ghana's two Edwards, Acquah (2) and Fynn (1), registering goals. Puskas' pair of strikes (one of which was scored on the stroke of full-time straight from the restart prompted by Ghana's late third goal) and Madrid legend Francisco 'Paco' Gento's finish completed the six-goal thriller.
