Greek man Antonis Mavropoulos narrates how he escaped death in Ethiopian Airline crash

A Greek man, Antonis Mavropoulos, escaped Sunday's plane crash involving an Ethiopian Airline flight, YEN.com.gh has gathered.

Mavropoulos escaped the unfortunate incident because he came late by a few seconds.

As earlier reported by YEN.com.gh, an Ethiopian Airlines plane carrying 149 passengers and eight crew members from Addis Ababa crashed on its way to Nairobi, Kenya.

According to a statement said the plane crashed around 08:44 local time on Sunday, March 10, 2019, after taking off at the Bole International Airport six minutes earlier.

Initially, information on survivors or casualties had been scanty but later reports suggested that all the 157 people on board the plane perished in the crash.

Apparently, Mavropoulos was supposed to be the 150th passenger but he arrived two minutes late for the flight.

Mavropoulos, president of the International Solid Waste Association, a non-profit organisation, was travelling to Nairobi to attend the annual assembly of the UN Environment Programme, a report YEN.com.gh sighted on Nation.co.ke indicated.

Narrating what happened in a Facebook post titled my My Lucky Day, Mavropoulos stated that he had struggled to get to the plane but reached there seconds late and was angered as he saw the the gate being closed on him.

“I was mad because nobody helped me to reach the gate on time,” Mavropoulos said.

Left with no choice, the 'mad' Greek man booked a later flight but before he could join that plane, airport staff prevented him from boarding and he was taken to a police

“They led me to the police station of the airport. The officer told me not to protest but to pray to God because I was the only passenger that didn’t board the ET 302 flight that was lost,” Mavropoulos explained in his post

The airport authorities explained that they wanted to question him because he was the only passenger booked onto the doomed flight who wasn’t on board.
