A former vice president of the United States (US), Joe Biden, who has his eyes in the presidency, has said that he might consider a member of the Republican party as a running mate.

Responding to questions on Monday, December 30, in Exeter, New Hampshire, on his choice for who will become the second citizen of the country if he emerges as president, Biden implied that he is open-minded in that regard, CNN reports.

evansBiden said: "The answer is I would, evansbut I can't think of one now," Biden replied. "Let me explain that. You know there are some really decent Republicans that are out there still..."

Biden said that although he cannot think of anyone at the moment, whoever he will pick as vice president must be someone who shares the same ideology with him.

He said: "Whomever I would pick were I fortunate enough to be your nominee, I'd pick somebody who was simpatico with me, who knew what I, what my priorities were and knew what I wanted to."

The former US vice president said that there are lots of women and African-American citizens who qualify for this position.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Biden had on Thursday, April 25, announced his decision to run for president for the third time in 2020.

Biden, who served as the vice president during the Obama administration, described the 2020 race as a "battle for the soul of this nation."

He said: "The core values of this nation, our standing in the world, our very democracy, everything that has made America, America, is at stake. That's why today I'm announcing my candidacy for President of the United States."
