COVID-19: Gates, Dorsey and 8 others are now the top 10 private donators worldwide

- A list showing the top private contributors to the fight against the coronavirus has emerged online

- The list includes names of wealthy people such as Jack Dorsey of Twitter and Bill and Melinda Gates

- Till date, Dorsey's contribution of $1 billion remains the highest so far

Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that about 77 billionaires have donated to various causes, as at the end of April 2020, in a bid to fight the coronavirus.

Presently, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, has made the largest single donation of $1 billion, which is a quarter of his fortune.

Dorsey revealed that the balance from his donation, if any, should be made available for causes focused on helping girls worldwide, as well as those dealing with challenges in earning their basic income.

Per a report by statista.com, Bill and Melinda Gates have also been influential with regard to support to eliminate COVID-19.

Forbes reports that they are on record to have made the second highest private donation.

Other philanthropists who have pledged to the cause include Jeff Skoll of Skoll Foundation, a former eBay executive, and George Soros of the hedge fund Soros Fund Management, who is also well-known for his philanthropic agency, the Open Society Foundation.

YEN.com.gh understands that Azim Premji of Indian IT corporation Wipro and Andrew Forrest of Australian iron ore producer Fortescue Metals have also made sizable donations.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that international celebs like Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Cristiano Ronald, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Ciara, and Russell Wilson have been using their platforms to raise funds for various coronavirus relief and support funds.
