Carlos Ahenkorah: Embattled MP’s campaign team member dies

A member of the campaign team of the embattled legislator, Carlos Ahenkorah has died according to a newspaper report.

The Ghanaian Times newspaper reported on Saturday, July 4 that the Tema West New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP’s parliamentary primary campaign team staff passed on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at the LEKMA Hospital at Teshie in Accra.

The paper also noted that two other staff of Mr. Ahenkorah are receiving treatment after they tested positive of the COVID-19 disease.

The deceased (name withheld), a ward coordinator at Lashibi, was among three members of Mr Ahenkorah’s campaign team in the Tema West Constituency alleged to have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease,” the newspaper said.

The two people receiving treatment are the polling station chairman for Tema Community 5, popularly called Bobo.

The other person is called Nana Boakye. He is currently on self-isolation and is being treated at home.

Mr. Carlos Ahenkorah resigned from government as deputy minister of Trade on Friday, July 3, 2020, after granted radio interviews and revealed that he visited a voters registration center knowing that he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease.

He said in interviews with Asempa FM and Citi FM on Thursday, July 2.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the deputy minister for trade and industry and member of parliament for the Tema West constituency, Carlos Ahenkorah, has resigned from office with immediate effect.

His resignation follows his admission for breach of the COVID-19 safety protocols.

In a statement sighted by YEN.com.gh, the director of communications at the office of the president, Eugene Arhin, Ahenkorah presented his resignation of Friday, 3 July.
