Basetsana Jokozela has managed to become a shining example for those looking to leave their past struggles behind and secure an education from a reputable institution. This comes after the young lady managed to bag a qualification from Wits recently.

Facebook page, Varsity World, recently shared her story with the world with a picture post accompanied by an inspirational short message from Basetsana, who explains how she overcame her "broken background" and went on to conquer her higher education dreams.

"I have conquered the Wits edge. I am so humbled by this achievement. I am a Wits graduate from a background where all odds were against me. I was born and raised in a broken environment where everything looked so impossible.

"This is a humble reminder that nothing is impossible if you go for it and work hard. Today I have achieved what I never thought I could achieve and this is a motivation going forward for me and everyone that it’s actually possible if you work for it. I remember all the blessings from my lovely late grandmother and dad and I am so grateful for them."

Batsetsana then goes on to say that anything is possible, even for the black child who sometimes seems so lost in poverty and lack of privilege that it has become easy to believe their dreams will never be realised.

"This is the beginning of great things and you know what, black child, it’s actually possible, your background doesn’t define you. Thanks to my lovely mom, family and friends for this graduation day. Despite Covid-19 they made it happen for me and I am so grateful. I made it, I have conquered the Wits Edge. #WitsGraduate"

The heartfelt post was at the receiving end of hundreds of comments from Facebookers who were pleased to see another young black woman making a success of herself. Read some of the comments below.
